Ergothioheine uptake transporter (ABC-type), EgtUV, of 553 and 213 aas, respectively. While the first has 7 N-terminal TMSs and a binding protein domain C-terminally, EgtV is the ATPase subunit.  The system transports human dietary antioxidants and 2-thioimidazole-containing low molecular weight thiol ergothioneine (Legg et al. 2025). OseR, a bacterial redox sensor, regulates ergothioneine uptake via a Cys thiol switch, enhancing oxidative stress resistance and virulence (Zhu et al. 2025).
