A 3 aa deletion in the transmembrane domain causes resistance to spinosad, a macrocyclic lactone insecticide (Wang et al. 2016). Mutations in the orthologous α6 subunit of Rhyzopertha dominica (lesser grain borer; 81% identical to the moth protein) also gave rise to spanosad resistance (Wang et al. 2018).
