Porcine beta defensin 2 (pBD2) caused the bacterial membranes to be broken, bulging, and perforated (Zhang et al. 2020). pBD2 may have multiple modes of action, but the main mechanism by which pBD2 kills S. aureus is the destruction of the membrane. It is 63% identical to human β-defensin-1.
