1.D.245. The Fullerene Film Nanoporous Amorphous Carbon Monolayer (FFF) Family
Carbon materials derived from fullerene have unique structures and properties. However, only micrometer size samples can be obtained that limits the studying and exploration for membrane applications. The preparation of a centimeter-size nanoporous amorphous carbon monolayer is effected by rapidly pyrolyzing a Langmuir-Blodgett film of fullerene. The sample was fully characterized, and the results indicate that the amorphous carbon monolayer derived from fullerene is metastable and insulating. An ionic transmembrane transport study demonstrated that the membrane is porous and cation selective with a selectivity of 26%. The controlled synthesis of large-size metastable amorphous carbon monolayers has thus been accomplished (He et al. 2023).
