The two principal luminal domains of Ptch1 (TC# 2.a.6.6.13) and Ptch2 are interchangeable; the sterol-sensing domains (SSDs) of Ptch-family members exhibit generic activities while the adjacent cytoplasmic and luminal domains determine their protein-specific activities (Fleet and Hamel 2018).
