2.A.67.2.12 Metal-nicotianamine transporter, Yellow Stripe-like 4, YSl4, of 670 aas and possibly 16 TMSs in a 3 + 1 TMS pattern repeated 4 times. Metal ion transporters have been identified in chickpea, and the role of CaYSL4 in orchestrating iron content has been delineated (Singh et al. 2024). CaYSL4 showed specific expression in flower, leaf, shoot and seeds after Fe-deficiency treatment. It orchestrated Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn translocation in chickpea seeds (Singh et al. 2024) and was regulated by RNAi-mediated silencing. There are eight and 19 YSL proteins, respectively, encoded within the Arabidopsis and rice genomes. AtYSL4 and AtYSL6 are the only genes in Arabidopsis belonging to YSL
Group II. They are localized to vacuole and internal membranes
resembling the endoplasmic reticulum (Conte et al. 2013). YSL4 is a senescence-associated gene (Hanaoka et al. 2002). YSL6 is in the chloroplast membrane and together with YSL4, protects against iron excess in chloroplasts (Divol et al. 2013).
