Two electrons (an electron pair) are transferred across the membrane simultaneously from an electron donor on one side of the membrane to an electron acceptor on the other side.  Enhanced bidirectional extracellular electron transfer can be based on  a biointerface interaction of a conjugated polymers-bacteria biohybrid system (Zhang et al. 2023).
