8.A.73 The Mitochondrial ATP synthase Stress-responsive Protein (MASP) Family
The expression of the AtMtATP6 (At3g46430) gene in Arabidopsis suspension-cultured cells was induced by several abiotic stresses: salts, drought and cold. Over-expression of the AtMtATP6 gene in transgenic yeast and Arabidopsis thaliana plants increased resistance to salt, drought, oxidation and cold stresses (Zhang et al. 2008). This suggests that induction of this small protein of 55 aas and 1 putative TMS, possibly a subunit of the mitochondrial F1F0-ATPase, plays a role in stress tolerance.
