These MamG proteins and their homologues (including MamD, Mms5 and Mms6) are usually encoded within magnetosome islands. They always possess a transmembrane domain with 2 TMSs including the well conserved (LG)4 repeat. They are very glycine-rich as are all of its homologues. Almost all are from magnetotactic bacteria.
