Chitoporin, of 467 aas with one N-terminal TMS, transports chitobiose across the outer membrane of S. marcesces for hydrolysis by a chitobiase in the periplasm or taken up into the cell by a phosphotransferase system specific for chitobiose (Palmer et al. 2021).  This chitoporin protein is 74% identical to TC# 1.B.25.1.13 (YbfM of E. coli) which may be a chitobiose porin. phosphotransferase system.
