1.C.136. The Glycocin Bacteriocin (Gcc) Family
Plantericin ASM1, a member of the Gcc family, is a bacteriocin with a narrow antibacterial spectrum. Antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive bacteria, L. plantarun, L. pentosus, L. curvatus, L. lindneri, L. mesenteroides and E. faecilis has been demonstrated. It lacks antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive bacteria L. brevis, L. sakei, L. lactis, P. acidilactici, B. subtilis, B. cereus, L. monocytogenes and S. aureus, and against the Gram-negative bacteria E. coli and S. typhimurium. (Hata et al. 2010). This family may be distantly related to other bacteriocin families such as 1.C.1.1.4 (alveicin B) and 1.C.22.1.6 (plantaricin).
